Wade Kapszukiewicz Re-Elected as Toledo Mayor for Historic Third Term

TOLEDO, Ohio – Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz has secured another four years in office, becoming the first mayor in Toledo history to serve three consecutive terms.

Kapszukiewicz, 53, was re-elected Tuesday with approximately 60% of the vote. The opportunity for a third term became possible after voters passed a charter amendment last year extending the mayoral term limit from two to three.

“I understand the history of what’s happened here tonight,” Kapszukiewicz said following the results. “It comes with an added responsibility to live up to the trust voters have placed in me. I intend to carry that with me throughout the next four years.”

His challenger, Roberto Torres, 62, an Independent and longtime public servant who previously worked in both Toledo and Detroit, received about 32% of the vote, while roughly 7% were cast as write-ins.

The mayor noted that this year’s campaign season allowed him to continue focusing on city operations rather than heavy campaigning, saying his opponents were earnest but new to the election stage.

Kapszukiewicz ran on continuing initiatives he highlighted as accomplishments during his previous terms, including:

The redevelopment of the Northtowne Mall site Construction of the new YMCA facility Establishing a dedicated road paving and infrastructure fund

“To be re-elected not once but twice is humbling,” the mayor said. “I take very seriously the trust the community continues to place in me.”
